Founded in 1980, Bashinski Fine Gems and Jewelry grew from the ambitions of then Mercer University student, Stephen Bashinski. Uninspired by his academic pursuits, Stephen opened a modest storefront in downtown Macon, Georgia and began buying and selling gold and gold coins. Soon Stephen was joined in the business by his brother, Randall following completion of his master’s studies in Risk Management. Together they learned to restore and preserve estate jewelry for their clientele as they sought to expand their burgeoning business. 

Quickly the brothers outgrew the downtown storefront, moving the operation in 1983 to its current location at 1126 Riverside Drive. Now with more room, Stephen and Randall seized the opportunity to expand the jewelry restoration efforts and soon began designing their own line of unique jewelry pieces. Adding the skills of a Senior Jeweler to the staff, Bashinski’s acquired the ability to manufacture their own line of jewelry, focusing on quality materials and exceptional craftsmanship.  Not content with “ordinary” stones for his custom designs, Stephen began traveling to the diamond centers of the world where he hand-selects diamonds directly from the source, ensuring only the highest quality diamonds and precious gemstones are used to create jewelry of superior quality and value for his clientele. 

In 1999, Bashinski began producing more platinum jewelry with an outstanding finish and exacting attention to detail, setting them apart in the jewelry industry.  The Bashinski standard for polishing platinum includes a twenty-one step process of filing, sanding, buffing and polishing all utilizing materials and tools used exclusively on platinum. Platinum, renowned for its durability and unique ability to highlight diamonds and gemstones, is currently used in more than 75 percent of all Bashinski custom designs and engagement rings.
